Include a concise, 1-2 line objective or summary
at the top to summarize your career up to this point and tell
the reader what you can do for him or her. Don't worry—there are
ways to write this section that won't pigeonhole you into just
one job.
An employer reading your resume wants to know
how you can solve his or her problems. Your opening should answer
that question quickly to get your resume off to the right start.
Here’s some example text to get you started:
Seeking executive position where highly effective
technology management experience will add to profitability.
QUALIFICATION
HIGHLIGHTS
A text-heavy section like the one below has
almost no chance of being read in detail by a harried employer
or recruiter. Just as you wouldn’t put speed bumps at the start
of the Indy 500, the opening sections of a r?sum? should not prevent
a fast start. Try to invite readers in, not put them off. I suggest
breaking this into 4-5 bulleted paragraphs 2-3 lines in length.
Expertise includes strategic planning, infrastructure,
quality assurance, business process improvement, application development,
and international business. Proven ability to lead and motivate
high performance teams focused on maximizing productivity. Exceptional
communicator, with emphasis on building strong client relationships,
forging beneficial partnerships and negotiating cost-saving contracts.
Skilled, hands-on technologist, adept at quickly putting changes
in motion with direct leadership to development and implementation
teams. Visionary ability to take organizational objectives and
produce real solutions for long-term success. Extensive experience
managing large-scale business critical projects, dedicated to
improving customer satisfaction, decreasing costs and controlling
risk.
An accomplished, results-driven Executive Manager
of Information Technology with over 20 years of demonstrated success
directing business and technology operations to optimize bottom
line productivity.
PROFESSIONAL
EXPERIENCE

Start up Software and Technology Solutions Company that develops
strategic, web-based Professional Services Automation and e-Procurement
software in JAVA to help businesses manage resources, people,
income and expenses. Key products included the Top Workforce Manager
and ASPURL.WS.
Watch punctuation above and throughout. I can
see you’re trying to draw attention to key wording by using the
following spelling:
Start up Software and Technology Solutions Company …
You risk offending readers who are sticklers for grammar and look
for any reason to weed out r?sum?s. Use standard capitalization
and punctuation, like this:
Start-up software and technology solutions company …
CIO/Chief Quality Officer/SVP of Client Services
March 2000 – September 2001
Again, break up dense, text-heavy sections like the one below
into several bulleted paragraphs. Make the reader’s job as easy
as possible. As you write, remember that every word counts. Spend
about 20 percent on the duties of each job and 80 percent on the
specific results you produced.
